In regards to self pollinating the pumpkin plant. Since pumpkins are
naturally outcrossing species, inbreeding will cause inbreeding
depression. But this will ONLY happen if the seed that you planted and
are self pollinating with was ALSO self pollinated. Inbreeding
depression causes a weaker plant, and smaller fruit. Breeders use
inbreeding in naturally outcrossing species when they want to generate a
pure line(or stable consistent genetics). Then they cross with another
pure line that they have created and they generate a hubrid. This is
done in corn.
