An update for all.....

Well, the weather here in southeastern NY has been about 80-90 degree
temperatures, with not alot of direct sun. Mostly cloudy, or hazy, and very
humid. The plants don't seem to mind it too much, but the farmer (me) hates
this hot and humid weather. Good thing the farmer (me) gets up about 7:00, so
its not too hot down by the patch. My 4 plants seem to have survived their
recent bout with a clan of Potato Bugs...About 30-40 percent of leaves show at
least some damage, but most damage is minimal. And the Bugs seemed to have
been responding well, (dying) to the Sevin dust I gave them. I have been
aprehensive about putting the dust on some of the newer leaves, and the bugs
seem to have been staying away from them, more or less. So I will keep with
this policy. My biggest plant, (General) is at about 11-12 feet now, and is
throwing out side vines like crazy. And the side vines are getting big too.
My next biggest plant (Colonel) is at about 7-8 feet, although its growing
more slowly, the vine is much thicker than Big Boy's vine. The side vines are
coming out a little more slowly on Colonel, but once again, they are thicker.
My other two plants are for some reason, consistantly slower than the others.
My third largest plant (Corporal) has really started to pick up its speed in
the last few days. One problem is, it cracked sometime ago in a storm. I
mounded it over, and it seems ok. So I'm just treating it as if it never
happened. The other problem is....Its growing straight towards the
zuchini...I've been slowly turning it in a U turn, and so far so good. My
final plant (private Smalls) is just pathetic. He's never going to make it in
this army. Hes going way too slow in comparison to the others, but he might
just grow the biggest pumpkin. You never know. Unfortunately, General was
the most badly affected by the recent attacks by the enemy (bugs), while
Private Smalls was hardly affected. Must have been hiding in his foxhole or
something. Corporal and Colonel seem to have been doing their share of the
fighting as well. Well, I should get back to the patch now...Good luck to
all.
