Sunflower seeds from Buck Meier

Friends:

Buck sent a packet of sunflower seeds last season, which I planted in
February of this year. I have great results. My tallest sunflower was about
10 ft, all with nice big seed heads.

I direct sowed my seeds in warm, moist sandy soil rich in organic matter. The
best plant was achieved by proper spacing. Allow three or four feet if
planting in a row. Growth is rapid after germination, which takes up to 2
weeks or so. Plant seeds in soil pointed end down.

The leaves were dark green and HUGE. Stump on largest plant approx 3 inches
diameter. It has been the pride of the neighborhood. Right now, the blooms
have faded and seed heads are bent over like a giant shower head. I will
leave the plants intact until the seeds ripen off. Unlikely birds will get
seeds due to the position of the seed heads to the ground. Squirrels, OTOH....

Any who would like seeds from my plants are welcome to them. I don't expect
them to be ready for another month or so.

Drop me a private e-mail if you're interested.

Thanks again, Buck for your seed generosity. I live on a corner lot in
suburbia and these giant sunflowers have been enjoyed by many.
