Double dipping

I have a situation where I have two plants in
the same 'hill', each vining in opposite directions. Both are doing well and it
will be hard to decide which to cull. Has anyone had much luck raising two
plants in this scenario? Won't having the main roots of two plants that close
together jeopardize their nutrient uptake?
Thanks,
Mike
