Grass clippings

Who ever ask??
We have been using grass in our garden for years. Heck my father has been using it as long as I can remember the hot stinky stuff when I had to spread it as a kid. If you spread it as you cut it it pretty easy. Does not smell. If you pile it up and then spread later it heats up right away. I prefer to spread it once and I spread it very heavy . Around all my garden plants. Potatos, tomatos, beans, onions, acorn and summer squash, peppers...ect ect ect...  I have never experianced any burn from getting to hot. I can see how it might happen but personally I haven't seen it. I mulch one year around my pumpkins and true it does keep weeds down and does a wonderful job holding it moisture but it does restrict some root developement on the tap roots from the vines. If it is heavily mulched some tap roots will curl back up and die cause they can't get through the grass. If you plan on placing a scoop or 2 of dirt on the leaf joint anyway then it probably won't hurt to mulch. Thanks my 2 cents worth!!  I don't mulch because I don't bury vines. Not because of the fear of burning up my plant. If you work out ahead of the plant far enough the grass will be brown and matted down (cool not  hot)  before the vines ever reach it!!
