RE: Ants

A baking soda question: I read recently where baking soda mixed with fish
emulsion or Safer's insecticidal soap would eliminate powdery mildew. The
premise was that baking soda contains sulfur, which kills the mildew. Well,
I tried it out on my squashes, mixing it with Safer's, and the mildew seems
to be going away. My question is, is it sulfur that kills off the mildew?
Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, which I believe is NaHCO3. Where's the
sulfur? What's actually at work here?

Thanks,

Chuck
