Pumkin Master,
Glad to hear your's recoverd too! The heat (and lack of) is a problem
here too. We went from a string of 90+ days to the 60's within 1/2 a
week. It had been in the 40's at night here the past few nights.
Everything seems to be tolerating it well, though.
About your question. The main vine was just over twelve feet (closer to
15+ now) but the flower that I decided no to pollinate was at about the
8 foot mark. It wasn't positiioned very well on the vine and it had
(what I consider after last year) a short stem. Last year I pollinated
one on my 1061 plant that was similiar to this one and ended up with a
pumpkin that could not be positioned therefore it grew inverted, blossom
end up. That doomed it from the start. This year I opted for patience
(although not my original plan). I'll have one pollinated on this plant
within the next couple of days. The other plants I intend to pollinate
the #1 female irregardless of distance from the main root, especially
the 881 since it came from a pumpkin that was only 4 ft from the main
root,
Alan H
