If you ever have occasion to visit New Baltimore, Michigan, try to do so at
the beginning of June. That's when they hold the Mayfly Festival (yup,
carnival and all). Mayflies are a sign that the local waterways are
reasonably clean -- which is something to celebrate. Since mayflies really
do little or no harm and they're hard to eliminate without fouling up the
water, the folks of New Baltimore decided, instead, to celebrate the bugs'
arrival. I believe they even have a statue of a mayfly somewhere in town.
And you thought AG growers were crazy!
