Re: your thoughts please

dan & beth, a number of years ago i got my self in a situation where i had to cut the main  off down stream from the pumpkin. i figured this thing is gonna split it self to death so i had nothing to lose. lo and behold it didn,t die it just kept on truckin. i have since done this every year and kept track of growth. doesn,t slow down one iota. what it means i havn,t a clue but obviously the plant can supply more food than the plant can use.in fact last years developed blossom end split. i wouldn,t think this would happen if it was starving .   just food for thought.      craig

Subject: your thoughts please

List,
What is everyones thoughts and Ideas on how a plant actually works. Does the vine from all over the plant help feed a pumpkin that is setting only 4 feet out on a side vine or main. Do  the nutrients travel backwards (for lack of a better term) throught the vines to a pumpkin or do things go from stump outwards only.  I really don't have a clue and have always tried to set fruit aways out say 15 to 20 feet just to make sure I have pleanty of plant BEHIND the fruit. Then after it is set I always wondered whether or not all the extra plant that continued to grow out beyond the fruit was just a waste of the plants energy!! Just wondering Thanks
The Carlsons Dan and Beth
