Group,
I must apologize for some incorrect info on the vine borer. I talked to
Dr. Jude Boucher today and he fowarded info to me on his research. Dr. Ashley
told me of the ineffectiveness of Methoxychlor..............this was
incorrect. Thank goodness....... Methoxychlor is effective for vine borer
control and can be purchased without permit. Asana is a little better but is
not available to home gardeners without a permit. Sevin has been used for
years by pumpkin growers, but is not labeled for control of vine borer. Sevin
is labeled for cucumber beetles on pumpkins, so the use of Sevin on pumpkins
is permitted. Why isn't it labeled for vine borers???????? Good question.
Most likely, it is not effective, or not effective enough. Some growers feel
Sevin is effective.........I can't say to use it, for it is not labeled for
that purpose. My official stand is, use Methoxychlor and follow the
label....or get a licence and try Asana.
