Re: 697 ciliberto.

Scott,
Sorry to hear of the discolorations.. I have none on my true leaves.. my
biggest prob with leaves is that the young tender ones near the runner have
been getting burned... So when they open, I have alot of burnt leaves.. That
holds true with the 866 also, so it is not just the 697 that is doing it, it is
the unbelievable heat we are having.. I am wondering if maybe it was a mid day
watering I gave them on sunday to cool the leaves and plant down, and maybe
that scorched it.. Not sure..
The 697 gave birth to 2 females yesterday, and I selfed them, but they are
secondary females, I am going to cross the 866 pollen into the main pumpkins,
and maybe bring in some 1092 pollen I have available for some late set ones..
Tomorrow I have 2 more ready for pollenating, one on the 866 main, and another
side vine set on the 697. I am amazed at the amount of male flowers I have cut
off these plants already.. I think it is near 30 flowers that have blossomed,
thrived, and then died. I have no problem in that department ...
I shall be updating the pumpkin page with some pics of the newest set
females, and maybe a picture of the patch, or as my wife put it "The alien
landing pad"... She labeled it that because of my inflatable owl, inflatable
snake, and 3 pie tins that spin in the wind.. This all to keep the birds out..
So far, I havent lost any.. but I think I should go with the suggestion of
netting very soon, to help protect the pumpkins as they get larger ...... That
is until I can get the sun huts going..
