George,
I tried this last year and the one problem I encountered with it is
that it is not a very slick surface so that as the pumpkin grew,
instead of the bottom surface of the pumpkin spreading over the
fabric it sort of rose up in the middle. I've heard this can be
avoided if the surface of what you put under the pumpkin is
slick or like sand will spread and roll under the spreading surface
of the growing fruit. Perhaps others can recommend something
better, I haven't decided yet this year what I'll do for mine. If it
doesn't start acting like summer soon I won't have to decide. High
temp. yesterday was 60º with drizzle and mist. It's been more like
March than June the past couple weeks. Still no female blooms on
any of my three plants.
