Re: Why treat for grubs??

Hi,

Grubs have a very specific life cycle which puts them in the soil in the
fall and in the spring. The grubs do their most damage while in the soil,
nibbling roots, and boring. So when you treat for grubs you are elimating
those grubs in your soil, that will damage your plants (in the grub
stage).

To my knowledge they go deep into the soil during the winter, and are
closer to the surface in spring and fall. The grubs in the spring are
those that went into the soil last fall, and the one in the fall are the
"new" generation entering the soil. By treating spring and fall with a
contact poison you break the life cycle at the point it is damaging your
garden.

That is why I do it. I am not as worried about the moth, as I am the
grub. There are other things for moths.
