RE: growing pumpkins
Hi Everyone,
This is my first posting to this list. I have been listening with great
admiration to all of you who are so knowledgeable. I actually have an
educated response to Jade's question about what you do in the pumpkin patch
when "everything is growing good." I don't know about you guys, but we
checked every leaf, stem and fruit EVERYDAY 'cause anything and everything
happens in an AG pumpkin patch. Sometimes good stuff and sometimes not so
good stuff. We checked for insects (squash bugs, cuke beetles, and
especially borers), we watched for critters, we checked soil condition (i.e.
does it need water), temperature (too hot, too cold), funguses on vine or
fruit, and most important of all when "everything is growing good" -- HOW
FAST IS IT GROWING AND HOW BIG IS IT TODAY? Trust me -- YOU WILL NEVER BE
BORED IN AN AG PATCH!! Happy growing - Marna

I have been reading info on the growing of the pumpkins and the plants and
not sure of what the daily routine for the checking of the plants includes.
They talk about cracks and dressing the cracks with fungucide, shading the
pumpkin, lots of other stuff. What can you tell me about what needs to be
done in the patch after everything is growing good??? Don't want to be
unprepared. Not that I ever am, haha. Should I have fungucide on hand
before I need it?? I would think so. But how much would I need?? what kind
should I get?? What all can happen out there in the patch and what else
should I know to be able to handle problems before or as they happen.
Right now I am an information sponge.
Jade
