This past weekend the California Caravan
headed up to the Pacific Northwest for the
annual Growers Seminar and Meeting.
Simply put........this Seminar was fantastic !!

The guest speakers from Oregon State
University discussed pumpkin breeding and
genetics. Professor Jim Myers gave us a
lot of excellent technical information and
speaker Rebecca Brown covered a variey of
topics including breeding for color and
pollination. Her presentation was
AWESOME !!!

Thank You Northwest Growers for making
your southern neighbors feel so welcome.

I encourage every grower to attend a
PNWGPG Seminar if at all possible.
There is just an amazing wealth of knowledge
at these seminars....... there is so much
information flowing that it actually
boggles the mind.

The seed raffle and auction was a lot
of fun. A lot of top notch seeds were up
for grabs. I have never seen a better
assortent of "hot seeds"..........hey, the
California growers were so excited about
the seeds that we picked up that the five
growers in our van kept slappin' the
"high-five" to each other while we were
driving back.......and we sure were
smiling a lot !!! (>:

We also had an unexpected surprise
at the Holiday Inn where we were holding
the Growers Meeting........there was a
Llama Breeders Convention going on at
the hotel at the same time.
Hey folks, you will never feel strange being
a pumpkin grower after you meet a
llama breeder !!..........these dudes were
parading these llamas in to the hotel ballroom
where they were having their convention and
they were auctioning off stud rights.......hey,
I learned more about llama mating habits
than I ever wanted to know.....Shellie Cramer
took notes.......why, I'm not sure.
I have no doubt that several Northwest
growers will be using llama poop in the
patch this year.

Thanks again Northwest Growers for
your hospitality. I'm already looking
forward to next year's Seminar .....and
its eleven months away !!!!
