It depends on where you live. The hotter it is the faster they grow. It
seems most coastal growers will get into the ground in early to mid May,
whereas inland growers will wait until late May or even the first week in
June. I live right up against the San Gabriel Mts. where temps will hit
nearly 100 every day from mid May through late September. Last year I
germinated in early April and had finished pumpkins by mid August. Way too
soon. This year I plan on germinating in mid May. We'll see.

well since this is my first growing season any of you california grows care
to tell me when i should plant my GIANT?? any info on starting the seed
would be helpfull too. and yes if i could load it in a truck and take off
with it i would like to have it ready in time for some kind of weigh off.
