In the book I have here by Don Langevin, he list a number of people
that have a history with pumpkins. However most of the credit seems to
belong to Howard Dill and his work with seeds from pumpkins his family
had for years and seed from a record pumpkin by another Canadain grower
Willian Warnock.
Warnock grew a 403lb pumpkin in 1903, a record that held for 75
years. Dill broke that record in 1979 with a 438.5 pumpkin. He, Dill, is
the holder of the patent of the Alantic Giant Pumpkins.
There is more detail in the Langevin book; " How to grow World Class
Giant Pumpkins.
