Yo Kevin,
         Only had a problem with it once, not on pumpkins. It was when I
never put enough soil over the top of it  and the ammonnia killed a few
plants. I find that the layer of soil must absorb the ammonnia. About 15 or
so of my gardening chums copy my method for their cucumbers and melons and
they have never had any problems either.
