I read some of the archives, and they said to plant 140 days before you want
your pumpkin. Is this right?

Lisa:

Your zone is likely a 10. You should probably be planted by now to avoid the
brutal summer heat. That really takes a toll on Atlantic Giant plants and
fruit. Check with your county's cooperative extension agent to confirm zone
and get info regarding vegetable gardening in your area. Local agriculture
officers and Master Gardeners can be a great help.

Here in FL, we plant early due to the heat, usually late Feb and harvest in
early June. While most pumpkins take between 90 to 120 days from seedling to
fruit maturity, 140 days seems a bit long for San Diego.

Success can be improved by learning more about your growing zone, and
planting your seeds to coincide with your climate. You just might have to
adjust your season a bit to take advantage of cooler temps.
