Hello~
I got my soil sample test back! The pH is
6.7, good. Soil fertility guidelines: nitrogen(2.2), phosphate(1.0) and
sulfur (0.5). The notes say: Prior to planting: Spread the above
requirements per 1000 sq. ft. and mix into the top 6 inches of soil.
Initially, limit nitrogen to 25-30 ppm NO3-N or 1.5 lb N/1000 sq. ft. to avoid
salt damage. Split any extra nitrogen evenly over the active growing
season. Adjust rate according to local conditions and requirements.
Allow for adequate establishment first.
I don't know what nitrogen to use. I found
some 46-0-0 and 36-0-0 at the farm store. Should I use that, blood meal or
chicken manure? How much? And what about the phosphate and
sulfur? I am not sure what they mean by local conditions and requirements
to adjust the rate for.
The main patch is 2500 sq. ft. The secondary
patch is open.
Thanks in advance for your help.
