I don't use 4 inch peat pots, I use 15 inch peat pots with a depth of 12
inches. I quarter them first then put them back together with tape. This
enables me at planting time to dig a two foot diameter hole and take one
section of the pot away at a time thus not disturbing the roots. Last year I
had them out on the 13th of May, and two years ago I had them out on the
twentieth. The big pot gives me the flexibility to wait if I need to. I have
never had root bound plants so I haven't stunted them in any way.
