ByWard Market Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off 2002

Dear Pumpkin Growers, (of Eastern Ontario, Canada)

As you know, due to the dissolution of the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Growers Association, the ByWard Market Business Improvement Area has now taken over sole responsibility for this area’s Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Since 1996, the OSLGA and BIA have worked together to host the event in Ottawa’s historic ByWard Market.

For this year’s contest, on Saturday, October 5, the event will solely be handled by the BIA, but rest assured we are not anticipating any major changes.

I have helped organize the past two weigh-offs and as the new site coordinator for the 2002 Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, it is my pleasure to announce that the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (G.P.C.) has unanimously approved our request to host the 2002 event in the ByWard Market. The G.P.C spokesperson, Hugh Wyberg, has personally extended his support.

In my next letter, which will be sent in June, you will receive an update on the categories and a tentative idea of the prize money available for the ByWard Market Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. We will also announce the entry fee for the 2002 Weigh-Off. Please note that your registration fees help contribute to the prize money for the Weigh-Off, along with the BIA’s contribution of $6,500. In that letter, we will also let you know of any changes that might occur in 2002.

Also please note that unfortunately, with the demise of the OSLGA, the seed exchange and quarterly newsletters have been discontinued.
