Re: TOP 10 SEEDS FOR 2002

Kevin,
Here are my 5 favorite pumpkin and 5 favorite squash seeds. The pumpkin
seeds come first.
1. 846 Calai
2. 611 Hester
3. 1064 Needham
4. 723 Bobier
5. 780 Eaton
Then 846 is in my opinion the greates seed in all of the land. I think the
611 will grow a 1100 pounder this year (hopfully from the 611 I grow this
year lol). The 1064 is a great seed, it grew a 940 for a 2nd year grower
which went over 200 pounds heavy and was weighed a month early, it could have
broken 1100. I will also be growing the 1064 this year. The 723 has proven
itself to be a great producer, its offspring weigh heavy (except the 1061
Cilibert) and have nice color compared to some other fruit. The 780, well, I
just like the 780. It throws BIG, heavy, mean looking offspring and also has
a low risk of splitting which is a good thing for backyard growers.
For squash I like these.
1. 455 Andrews
2. 744 Welty
3. 703 Smith
4. 900 Lyons
5. 895 Hester
The 455 has already grown a 954 UOW which was a nice green color and weighed
heavy. The 744 was a beautiful squash as well as its offspring. It had 2
fruit for Nic Welty on pace for 1200+ pounds, but he messed up with them. The
703 has great genes, it is a 3rd generation 935 Lloyd. If you're looking to
make a good squash cross a 977 Anderson X 703 Smith would be excellent, a
green version of the 815 Checkon almost. I like the 900 for its nice green
color, although it does go 50/50. it also grows large fruit. I like the 895
for its color as well. It also grew a 771, so it can grow large fruit. There
are so many great crosses out there, it's hard to determine my 5 favorites,
but this is the best I can do for now.
Tom
