Re: Bob's full of it
Bob-
you might be a little high on your N #'s
from shane... here is what I found...
no pony- but you see the #'s.

Average Nutrient Content Table
Livestock Nitrogen Phosphorus Potassium
Poultry 20 14 9
Cow 8 4 6
Hog 10 7 7
Steer 10 6 8
This table is based on the average nutrient
content in one yard of undiluted animal and poultry
excrement.
Divide these numbers by 40 to estimate the
nutrient content per 5-gallon bucket of fresh,
undiluted manure.
The value of manure as fertilizer depends on how
much it has been diluted or leached by water and the
proportion of bedding, such as straw, sawdust, or
shavings, that is mixed in undiluted manure.
Can't help you with how much water/urine is in
manure.
my guess is that you are low with 5.
your, Manure = hay - pony weight equation
doens't take into account hay input used
up in enery to to work- ie animal activity-
keep body temp for warm blooded animal.
energy used in all heart beat, breathing,
movement - etc.
but it would be quite difficult- if not
impossible to figure all that in.
so i'd say your equation is a guess at best-
which may or may not be anywhere close.
if it was me -i'd try to stick with what I know.
how much manure you moved. etc...
wouldn't be easier to get a soil test and
see what that shows ?
maybe you could get a soil test on straigh
manure ?
N ppm - from Checkon 1999 patch
26.6 in the 1131 patch
64.2 in the 1190 patch
hope this helps.
