RE: UOW Seeds ........(and squash too)

Title: Re: UOW  Seeds  ........
I like Kevin's idea also.........and as long as we are on the topic of labeling things correctly,
I think we need to take a look at the way we label Squash........I don't think that SQ or an  *
tells us a whole lot. Hey, if I want to grow a squash I want it to be a good looking green skinned
fruit,  one that starts out green and stays that way the whole while. In other words I want it to
be a "True Squash"......NOT a pumpkin that is green mottled or a pumpkin with heavy green
canaloping. For example I would call the 895.5 Hester 00 a true squash.  On the other hand
the 947 Welty 00 which is also classified as a squash looks like it may be the mottled or
canaloped variety. I think that somone who grows the 947 and expects a "true squash" might
be disappointed. The AGGC site has pictures of these as well as dozens of others......many are
"true squash" ,  many are mottled, canaloped or heavily webbed pumpkins that were judged to be
"squash" because of green surface coloration.
If it started out green and has "green skin"  I suggest that we should label it SQT,  (for true squash),
and keep the SQ designation for the mottled ones that the judges had to toss a coin on.

     Kevin,

I like your  idea best.  Just one more letter can make things more clear.  What letter doesn’t matter as long as its consistent.  Good idea.  Hope it catches on.

 Hi Everyone
In my HUMBLE opinion anything tagged onto a pumpkin negative is negative. My opinion is to add......an "S" to the end of a UOW or EXH for the term "Sound." That way it takes off the confusion of it being an EXH because you had two pumpkins or it had a flaw... Concentrating on the flaws only makes things negative lets look to the good qualities and if you want to look for problems you will just have to look a little deeper !! What do you all think ???
Take care all and may all you pumpkins in 2002 be Official Weight and "Sound"
