List, My suggestion,

  Class 1)   Pumpkin - yellow to orange  (except for minor incidental 
variations)
  Class 2)   Squash  - gray to green       (except for minor incidental 
variations) 
  Class 3)   Gourd -  Open class- all colors and variations not meeting class 
1 or 2

      Now, to settle the sure to discussion of incidental color variations. 
Judges will have final say and use the "Baseball Rule" where a tie goes to 
the runner. In our Pumpkin and Squash classes, if you have to ask (question 
the fruits color) it goes into the Open Gourd Class. This will have the 
desired effect of making the pumpkin and Squash class genes as pure as 
possible, with their colors getting better every year.
