Hard Water Conditioning
Hey All.............
Anybody tried - and had demonstrated success - with those magnetic water
conditioning devices? The heat here in SM means I have to mist and the
hard water means heavy scale deposits build up on the leaves during the
second half of the season. Looks almost like a bad case of PM and the
leaves actually get brittle. I can't help but believe it really slows
pumpkin growth during the last 30 days relative to what it would be with
"healthy" leaves.
The theory here is not to remove the ionized (dissolved) solids from the
water, but to electrically charge them so as to inhibit their natural
tendency to re-crystalize into solid form (the scale deposits in your
shower). My quick review of the literature suggests these devices are more
snake oil than science. However, that discussion focuses only on their
ability to prevent long term scaling on pipe walls and equipment, not
pumpkin leaves. Cuz they're expensive, I thought it worth an ask.
I expect many of you suffer both heat and hard water? What other remedies
have you found to beat the inevitable build up?
Best of luck to all in '03.
