Re: No-Till Method
I am going no-till pumpkin patch this year. Last fall it was piled high
with vines and other garden residue that shrank over the winter. Since I
use buried soaker hose for irrigation it is best for me to leave the
irrigation system in place. By keeping the ground covered here in southern
Oregon during the winter the soil stays much softer than if it was exposed
to rain. I am adding a cover of organic matter on the surface and covering
with clear plastic for the planting season. The organic mater will break
down through the summer at the surface of the soil which will leave looser
soil in the fall than if it had been tilled in the spring and settled and
harden through the growing season. I am a believer.
