Yo Steve,
If you have no worms in the gorund then that ground is not
good enough for them. Putting worms in is of no use..if there is nothing for
them to eat they will die. The better the soil the more worms. Worms only
eat rotting vegetation so you need to add organic matter to attract them. If
you leave a pumpkin to rot on the ground it soon fills with worms...food for
them....look at your compost bin...full off organic matter and full of worms
You never see worms in peat...the've ate the goodness and moved on.
