... become a private applicator in your state. ...(apx $340 per >gallon). .....not apply until you see the very first signs of the >mildew .....(pumkinguy)Well, there you have it. My apologies, Wayne. I'm sure someone smarter than I once advised to not let mildew ever get started. It must have been someone else. Darn. Now I hafta defrag my brain and
see it I can straighten that out.
The suggestion to get a pesticide license is excellent, though in many states it requires significantly greater time, cost and effort than it does in others.
Beyond that, those of us growing in suburban backyards and on budgets may find the restricted use chemicals less than feasible. Rebecca, a bottle of Daconil costs ten or fifteen bucks at your local Home Depot or Lowes or wherever. Many growers use Captan; I opted not to after reading about the permanent eye damage it can cause. We've got kids and animals and the Captan seemed to present greater risk than Daconil. Also, it has been my observation that powdery mildew is less of a problem if I apply fungicide before the mildew gets started. This is in line with something I heard somewhere from somebody. LOL
