Niagara 2003.....another great Seminar !!

Last night I arrived back in California after a weekend at the
Niagara Falls Growers Seminar. On my long plane flight back I had
a chance to reflect on the events of this fun filled weekend.
Once again Dave McCallum and his staff of volunteers worked countless
hours for many months to present us with another fantastic Seminar
that we will never forget. (Many thanks).

The hightlight of the Seminar to me was meeting and being able to
hang out and talk with Howard and Danny Dill at the reception in the
Hospitality Suite on Friday and Saturday evening. Howard and Danny
greeted every grower there and were glad to discuss any topic from pumpkins
to hockey or baseball. These two evenings gave the growers who were there
memories to cherish for a long time.

Two other highlights of the weekend that come to mind are when
Howard received his Lifetime Achievement Award and also Don Langevin's
presentation at the Seminar. Don's presentation was one of the best I
have ever heard......and certainly the most entertaining. Don talked for
about 20 or 25 minutes and my sides were aching from laughing by the time
he finished. With a lot of injected humor he told us about the growers who
will be in his new book How-To-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins III.

The question and answer session with the panel of Heavy Hitters was top notch
and
very informative as were the the two guest speakers. I feel that I learned
a lot at the Seminar this weekend.

Once again Bill Bobier came to the rescue by raffling off a 723 to raise
some money when our beverages were running low in the Hospitality Suite.
Some lucky guy from California won this seed ......(yep, it was me).
To raise additional funds for the Seminar, later that evening Bill invented
a card game that he called Pumpkin Poker........he donated another 723 to
this game.........lady luck must have been with that darn guy from California
...........he walked away from Pumpkin Poker with his second 723 of the
evening. (>: (>: (Thanks Bill, the Seminar needed the funds....and I needed
those 723's).

I could sit here for another hour writing about all the nice growers that
I met and all the wonderful stories that they told but instead I'll just
say.......yep, this was one fantastic fun filled weekend ......and I look
forward
to attending again next year.
