Group,
Long time, but always like to get in on this conversation. Seed selections usually change from minute to minute between now and the start of the season 1 month fom now (hard to believe that as I am watching more snow fall), but this year I have 4 solid choices, and leave room for a fifth if I want to add it.
Here they are..
898 Knauss - Just talked to Len Knauss last night, and he is a very low key fella, always down playing his efforts. Dave Larsen took a shot and came up big, and I know alot of other "top growers" putting this Over The Chart pctg seed in their garden, so it will be fun checking out progress on everyones 898's.
Hester 895 Squash - Talked to Brett, he likes this "true" squash, as if I am showing up with a squash, there will be none of the usual convversations like "Well, it does have some green, what do you think Marv?"... In the words of that famous historian, " Give me green, or call me death" *or something like that.. Wink.......
Wolf 917 - High, perfectly round, gorgeous, dont know what else to say. Andy grew a beauty here, and it was over the chart also.
Bailey 1245 - Tim was nice enough to bring this monster to Elmira weigh off to show off because Paul Harvey told his mother over the radio it was going to be in Elmira, despite him not ever making that decision. I believe there is some type of mojo in that story, so it must be the pumpkin gods speaking to me to grow this one..
Mystery Plant - Always grow the mystery plant. Keeps everyone wondering, especially if it is the one.
I will start backups for every one of these seeds, and here is the backup list.
Checkon 815 for the Knauss 898
Rockwell 879 for the Hester 895
Nesbitt 948 for the Wolf 917
Toftness 707 for the Bailey 1245
And a few 771's just for the heck of it...
Quick synopsis on the backups, 707 is just purely an awesome cross 846 Cali with the 723 Bobier, my squash seed for Bretts is sentimental, Alan Nesbitts 948, of all the fruit ALan has grown is the one fruit out of all of them that was highest percentage over the charts, and Larry's 815 I have grown the last 3 years, and loved all the plants.
Okay, there you have it.. Now, who is next to fess up on the garden entrants?
