RE: HGTV Garden Giants

They did mention the length of day, which I already knew was 24 hrs. I am
curious what one could do in a proper microclimate here in the lower 48 with
grow lights. I know Nic Welty has had some success with growing some of
these giant veggies.

Actually, does anyone have seed for any of these other giants? I would love
to try something different this year! I would especially like to get a
large variety of cabbage (as they showed last night). I have a friend who
makes cabbage rolls...what a surprise when I ask her to make them with one
of these!

Gus,

I didn't catch the bit on the Compost Water.... but for years now, organic
gardeners have been using a compost/manure 'tea'. I bet it is the same
concept as the Compost water..... I wish I had caught the 'whole' show.

No matter how hard you try though, you will never be able to compete with
the giant 'cold' weather veggies that are grown in Alaska (for the extreme
size)..... from what I know they have a very long cooler weather growing
season, ideal for these crops... unlike most growers of the continental U.S.
which have a season from cool to HOT (in a short amount of time) !

Also, did they say anything about the length of daylight during the growing
season?
