Fertigation

I'm making my plans for this years' pumpkin project. I would like to get
my fertilization a litle more controlled. I was thinking of taking some
big plastic barrels and hooking my drip iggigation up to them so that I
could mix up 50 gallons of water and fertilizer and then open the hose to
the drippers and let it dispense from the barrels. This seems like a fairly
foolproof method and wouldn't cost much. I've already got the barrels.
Aside from the expensive inline fertilizer systems, what are the rest of you
using to get your fertilizer to the vines in a controlled method?
