Tim,
I think I can answer this by saying 'no'. I wish there was one. There was
some discussion last year on the bigpumpkins.com forums of having a 'hot
weather' growing club but it never got anywhere. The growers in Southern
California have some things in common with the Southeast USA and Southern
Midwest (Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas) and Arizona, New Mexico with the hot
days not being optimal for pumpkin growing. And I think the demands of
growing in those climates are a little different than what the rest of the
country experiences. Misting and shading I think can be tricky but are
probably essential for growing anything of decent size when temperatures are
consistently above 90. If you are looking for resources I would suggest
looking for information from the pumpkin festival in Elk Grove, California
which is near Sacramento. Two growers in the Elk Grove area have had results
near 900-1000 pounds I think. From what I have heard a lot of California
growers do well with seeds that are from the grower named Urena out of the
Napa region. There is a grower named Brodie Gouselin (I think I have
spelling wrong here) in Louisiana that is doing very well (breaking records)
growing earlier in the year to beat the high heat. There is also a grower
that goes by the name of Autumn Leaf I think in the Monrovia, California
area that has had some large results. There is a married couple that grows
big pumpkins in the Southeast (Georgia?) too. Good luck.
