Re: Giant Pumpkin article

The Zehr's went to the WORLD PUMPKIN CONFEDERATION - WORLD PUMPKIN WEIGH-OFFTM
 in Clarence NY October 5, 1996.  Their prize was $3,000.00 USD for first
place at the local weigh-off and $50,000.00 USD for accomplishing the 1,000
lb mark.  This is a barrier the WPC has promoted since 1986.  It is important
to note this was in US dollars as Canadian dollars are only 65-70% of this
value.  If another 1,000 lb pumpkin had also entered at Clarence the growers
would have shared the $50,000.00 USD award.  Someone dropped a lot of money
to enter at Ottawa with a big one!  And, the Zehr's took home a total of
$53,000.00 USD for one vegetable!

Zehr pumpkin.  New WPC Club members may also purchase a seed (1) from the
1061.0 lber for $10 with new (or renewal) membership.  Seed from other top
pumpkins are also offered.  Its great just to see the 1061 lber in full color
along with the Zehr's.

The WPC Event is becoming the "OLYMPICS of GARDENING"  with sites in Belgium,
Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Japan, etc.  Growers are not limited to
just pumpkins as giant squash, sunflowers, tomato, cabbage, radish,
cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, corn, etc, are all represented.  Fruits
and flowers also!

Check out the Discovery Channel - WORLD OF WONDER on March 18 at 9:30 p.m.
and 1:30 a.m.; March 23 at 7:30 p.m. EST  to get a look at the demension of
the World Pumpkin Confederation and see some of the biggies!
