John,
I don't believe inbreeding will have an adverse effect on the Atlantic
Giant, but may through selecting produce a more consistant pumpkin. The seeds
are so screwed up genetically that you can plant 3 seeds from the same
pumpkin and see 3 different plants. Most seeds from the biggest pumpkins turn
out to be busts the next year. Your best bet is to plant seeds that are
proven from the year before. Rather than plant the 1006 or the 1061, look at
what seed produced them and plant them. Quite often a 500 or 600 pound seed
will be more valuble than a big one.

Once in a while, a seed from a big pumpkin will turn out well, but don't
assume that they are automatically good.
