Seed Germination Tip

I have found the following germination method very successful

I learned it in public school when we germinated beans or peas as part
of our science lessons.

I take a clear glass or plastic jar and line the inside with rolled up
paper towels...stiff kraft type....place the seeds ...approximately 4 to
a jar....half way down between the paper towel and the glass...and fill
approximatel 1/3 with water ....and place it in a warm spot such as on
top of the water heater.....The seeds should sprout within 4 days and
you then carefully pick them out with a pair of tweezers...before they
get too big....and put them in damp peat pots or starter soil and place
them in a warm spot...or a box with a light....
This takes the guess work out of whether or not the seeds have
germinated....I have just germinated some seeds for our grower's seminar
next Sunday as a demonstration although I will not start my real plants
until mid-April....I also have 2 plants that are up and are starting
their secondary leaves...again just for a demonstration....
The key is to keep the seeds wet but not under water, and warm.
This germination started in 2 days....no filing or soaking or anything
else.....Jim Ives in Picton, Ontario
