Pumpkinfest Report

An excellent turnout for the Prince Edward County Pumpkinfest Grower's
Seminar saw 87 people purchasing seeds, ordering sweatshirts and hats
and taking part in the seed auction.

Seeds sold for from $.50 each to $2.00 each and the auction saw a high
of $20.00 paid for 2 seeds from Chris Andersen's 1997 World Record 977.
Incidentally these seeds were purchased by World Champion Squash grower
John Lyons who was one of the guest speakers.

Two pairs of seeds from Bill Greer's 1996 Canadian Champion 1006 were
also auctioned off for $15.00 each.

Nearly $400.00 was realized from the sale and auction and will be used
by the Pumpkinfest Committee to finance advertizing and prizes

Growers and potential growers were treated to growing tips and
techniques from John Lyons of Baltimore, Ontario and also Serge Leclair
and lawn and garden supplier representative from Mississauga.

Entertainment also included the Pumpkinfest Song and Wellington Willies
Pumpkin performed by one of the local growers who will also be
performing at the Ottawa-St.Lawrence Growers Seminar later this month in
Ottawa.
