Yes, I guess all of us don't know what a silent auction is. Usually it is
a piece of foolscap where you make a bid for an object and place the amount
and your name on the foolscap. someone else comes along and if they want
to make a better bid, they just write what they bid and put down their
name. And on, and on, until the time limit when the last bid is accepted.
Try and visualize Farmer Gus standing up there with a mike and a gravel and
2 seeds in his hand looking for auction bids on 2 seeds. Growers will
start bidding and the seeds will be sold to the highest bidder. Everyone
bidding and all those gathered around will know who was, and is bidding and
what they are bidding and who had the final bid and what they paid.
This time we are doing bidding on the Internet. If you are interested in
owning and then planting the two Ciliberto 697 seeds, make a bid by sending
an Email to pumpkins@mallorn.com and saying "I bid $30.00 for the two
Ciliberto 697 seeds - Frank Frankster".
All of us now know Frank Frankster has bid $30.00 for the 2 seeds. If you
want to bid on the seeds and value them more; you up the bid and say "I bid
$35.00 for the two Ciliberto 697 seeds - Sally Sangster"
And on, and on until at 10:00 a.m. EST Thursday, 12 March when the final
bid at that time will be the accepted bid and that grower gets the two
Ciliberto 697 (94) seeds.
All the best!
