Dan,

I imagine you want a photosensor to determine if it is light or dark and
some sort of sensor to measure the wind (angle and flow?).  Does the
water delivery temperature matter, wouldn't want to shock a hot pumpkin
with cold artesian water.  I assume you will use the PC clock to
determine the ideal watering time.  I don't know much about growing
pumpkins (my first attempt last year resulted in a giant vine growing up
a pine tree with no fruit).  If you need help with sensors, PC hardware
interfaces or data acquisition software let me know.
How far is your computer from the pumpkin patch?  Do you plan on burying
the cables to the sensors and actuators?
