It sounds like it was something besides mosaic virus that infected
your plant. As far as I know there is no cure or treatment for mosaic
virus. What you had may have been some type of fungus or insect
caused(aphids?) problem if sevin and captan worked. Also what part of the
pumpkin did the rot start? how big was the pumpkin at the time of disease?
Soap-shield I think is a mix of pyretherins for insect control. It
is a good organic alternative but I have found nothing beats sevin for
controling cucumber beetles. Cuc. beetles can transmit nasty fungi,
bacteria and even the dreaded mosaic virus.I use Captan for germinating
seeds and cracks that appear on the pumpkins but that is all. It can be
quite toxic and I only use it when needed. I have used daconil with good
results for controling leaf/vine fungal diseases especially late in the
season. Also powder sulfur is good to use on pumpkin cracks because it is
not very toxic. Here in Ohio we have problems with vine borers. Have you
seen them in your patch? Also I have some more detailed info on diseases
that I could email you if you would like.
Good luck
John
