In posts I made to the group on March 10 I listed the seeds I had
acquired over the winter with some background on what the crosses were
that went into those pumpkins. It has been brought to my attention that
I had reversed the order the parent plants should be listed in. So in
the interest of clarity here is the list with the parents in the correct

When I posted this list I was hoping for some input from other growers
on what might be the best seeds to try. I thought it might be fun and I
was underwhelmed by the response. No one had any suggestions.
Apparently everyone is having a hard enough time deciding what will go
in their own pumpkin patch without having to think about what some
other grower will be planting. I have decided to grow two plants and I
will keep them both going for the duration of the season. I intend to
start four seeds in case any fail to germinate and will narrow it down
to two plants by April 25 when I expect my pea patch garden plot to be
ready for planting. My choices? The 916 J. LaRue-97, the cracked seed
coats and prize pedigree make me want to try this one without waiting
long. The 854 Emmons-97, Huge seed but feels very light, I question if
this one will germinate, but I like the pedigree. The 604 Miley-97,
theres nearly a ton of grandparents for this little seed and I'd like to
see what it can produce, I wish I had more than one. The 469 Hester-97,
a glossy white seed that looks very different from all the others.
Brett really likes this one, I was able to get three of them and have
sent one on to my Dad in Ohio. The tough part will be having to make a
cut and give up on two of these. I hope I haven't caused too much
confusion with my previous posts. Good growing everyone, lets set a
world record this year.
