squash bugs and compost

Fellow Pumpkin Growers:

I also battle squash bugs, and have them fairly well controlled.  I still get
a few each year.  I pick them and plop them in kerosene or squash them with my
boots.  I also spray with insecticide when needed.  As a precaution I burn all
affected plants, instead of composting the plants.  I would love to add the
the plants to the compost pile.  Should I keep burning (assuming I have a few
squash bugs this season) or risk it and add the plants to the compost pile?
