We all know that the 946 Geerts produced two pumpkins in excess of
1000 pounds last year and that it has produced quite a few others
over 800#. As with all seeds, what we don't hear about is the number
of smaller pumpkins that it produced. I know of at least one very
competent grower who "only" got a 400 pounder out of the 946 and I'm
sure there are many others. My question is, how many others?
What percentage of the 946 seedsgrown produced pumpkins over, say, 700
pounds. I would imagine that the pumpkin produced over 400 seeds
and we know of 10 really big ones it produced. Does this mean that
there were 300 or so smaller ones? (I'm assuming that most of the
seeds have been grown). 1/30 odds--is that really what we're looking
at? That doesn't seem all that great. Is there really that much
luck in this sport?
So how much better would a 946 be than other seeds that have
been known to pop one or two really big ones?
How would a, say, 449 Marcellus or an 875 Lloyd, compare to the 946?
How about other seeds?
