Re: picture on Web

Rocky is a great guy with interesting ideas and definantly fun to talk to. The
picture from the newspaper looks much smaller than the 1400. However, I believe
this picture was taken the second week in Oct. and the fruit grew until Dec. 2.
Also this may be one of the smaller fruit, 630? Other pictures I have seen
indicate it is larger than the pumpkin in this picture. Could be his measurements
were not entirely accurate, I know that mine are often different than those taken
at weighoff (I estimated my 638 at 616 lb. and the weighoff crew measured it at 585
lb). Even if he was off several inches, this is a truly giant pumpkin. Also to
note is the fact that when he cut it open there was only a cavity the size of a
basketball because of the 20" thick walls. With walls that thick it definantly
weighed up pretty high. Once again, Rocky is a friendly person to all who are
friendly to him. He has nothing to gain by lying and may not grow again because of
all the problems these pumpkins caused. He is very different from all of us
pumpkin fanatics and has a completely different moral.
About the squash, it is not pretty enough to be a squash in my book, but may
qualify in official GPC rules which I have rarely seen enforced with large
pumpkins.
Just some thoughts, I hope we can all forget about this for awhile and focus on the
upcoming season were who knows, maybe someone else will top 1500 lb. While we are
on the subject, it would be interesting to get a range of answers of just how big
of a pumpkin the world will produce next year (since we already know that it will
come from our own patch).

p.s. Sometime in the future I will get more Rocky pictures put on my web page.
