If no one has a Pumpkin genetics page, I plan to start one. I don't
expect it to amount to anything, but I like genetics of all plants and
it might be interesting to see whether all the folks together can come
up with something.
One page could cover known loci--probably none are known except color.
one page could discuss breeding systems which might be of interest to
pumpkin breeders. I don't know any now and have no books having info.
Do not assume that my proposed pages will aid pumpkin breeders, I do not
not know that much population genetics and the math gets beyond my
experience immediately. The big problem is that the number of pumpkins
grown from a parent is probably too small to give much info. In cattle a
bull lives many years and results of one cross(es) can be used to plan
more crosses with him. Pumpkins only live one year. Big pumpkin vines
just take up so much space
I am curious. Are the seeds from big pumpkins any larger than those from
ordinary pumpkins?
