Nothing specific regarding the chemical breakdown of Elephant dung but I
do know that Elephants have very inefficient digestive systems. (My
theory is that it would compost very quickly however.) Elephants are
also dependent upon certain microbes (which are not indigenous to their
systems) to digest their food. These microbes are present in their dung
although I have no information on the levels or effects of this
presence.
