Re: Marcellus 734 -98 Growth Characteristics
Female McIntyre 641 -97
Pollinated July 11 by Greer 1006
This one was a sleeper one I was not paying any attention to until Mid Aug.
2nd pumpkin on the plant on a secondary vine. Lost the first one on main
vine about Aug 10th to a blossom end split. This plant's pumpkins had the
seeds growing on the outside of the pistil. It was declared a mutant by me.
Same with the 734. Around Aug 10th I got mad at it for loosing mutant #1
and cut the plant back 3 feet on 2 sides and 6-8 feet on one side to allow
room for my 1006 Greer Plant which was my biggest plant ever. After cut
back the plant occupied a space of 24' by 24' This is accurate since I just
went out to my patch and paced it out since the plant is still there. 576
sq feet. I buried no vines, only cut tertiaries out about the end of August
once and didn't even finish this, due to lack of time. Covered the plant
for about the last two weeks continuously.
Good Orange color, high pumpkin, good stem, no sign of stem or blossom end
splits. Due to it's mutant characteristics and the Greer cross I think the
734 Seed might just set a new record this year.
