RE: Early trauma
Thanks, Connie. It's interesting - I had a private response from someone
who also grew a 567.4 and that plant never produced much. Of course the 920
Cole was grown from the 567.4. Now I'm wondering if, damage aside, the
difficulty in setting fruit could be genetic in that particular line. ??
The "point-four" has produced a couple of biggies, but it surely is not
fool-proof. More fodder for the argument Brock and others have advanced
that even the "proven" seeds may be a small percentage of the total out of
any given pumpkin.
Of course some people are getting serious about sorting seeds by where they
are in the pumpkin... some are doing blossom end vs. stem end; others
looking at seeds from different segments. It will be interesting to see
where that line in inquiry will take us.

... Will that early trauma to the seed shadow this plant's entire
existence??... last year I grew a Wallace 567.4, which early on had its main
vine smashed ...but I could never set a proper pumpkin on the darned thing.
